SERIES

  • “Ten Visions” multi media production.

I researched a brothel from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, in Omaha, Nebraska. I found many fascinating stories about the place from interviewing people and newspaper articles. The “Belle Hotel” which was Greenbergs Optical at the time I researched it, still had several floors that had not changed or been used since it’s infamous time in history. I recreated the rooms where the prostitutes and johns had their business and the main entertainment room for socializing. I had friends dress up in period costumes, and had a photographer create pictures for me that i did paintings from.
A grant became available for artists in the area to create their artistic vision and I was accepted. I had a song composed called “The Belle Hotel”; actors played out scenes that I had researched; musicians played background music and there were 50 projectors that splashed detailed shots of my paintings in the background as well as the newspaper articles. The whole project took several years.

  • “Family of Humanity”

I decided on 10 areas of humanity from priests, murderers, visionaries, prostitutes, Viet Nam vet, etc. I researched each area personally. I was allowed to go  to Death Row to paint 2 of  the men. I went to Medjugorje in Yugoslavia to find a visionary that had become nationally known, as well as researching the lives of prostitutes,  homeless people and others that I had decided upon. I did taped interviews with all of these people while I painted their bigger than life portraits.
The result would be a show where you heard the voices saying things that “anyone” could say and you would not know which one was the murderer and which one was the visionary, etc. The show was to bring out the connectedness without judgement that all humans have with one another.
When I was on the last painting, of which this all took around 3 years, my 4 story Victorian house went up in flames and all the paintings were destroyed before I had a chance to show them.

  • “A Moment in Time”

I was able to find mug shots from the police station in Omaha, Nebraska at the Historical Society. They were from the late 1800’s early 1900’s.  I created 24 multi media portraits bringing out the personalities of the characters I was drawing, using graphite.
I researched every person and historical events from this time period.  These are included in the series.  This is a historical piece as well as “A Moment in time” where these people’s mug shots were taken upon arrest from a supposed crime.(more information included with the series)
